What is ITKT?

ITKT stands for Izin Tinggal Keadaan Terpaksa or Emergency Stay Permit. It is a special immigration permit provided by the Indonesian government for foreign nationals who are in an emergency situation that prevents them from leaving the country.

Who is it for?

ITKT is applicable for foreigners who, for valid and urgent reasons, cannot leave Indonesia โ€” for example, due to:

  • Serious illness
  • Accidents
  • Natural disasters
  • Flight or travel disruptions with official proof

Case Example:

Recently, a woman in Indonesia reached out to us. Her husband, a foreign national, had already extended his Visa on Arrival (VOA) once and was not eligible for another extension. However, due to a medical condition, he was unable to travel abroad to comply with immigration rules.

In this case, the solution was to apply for an ITKT at the local immigration office.

How to Apply for ITKT:

  1. Visit the nearest Indonesian Immigration Office (Kantor Imigrasi) with the foreign national.
  2. Bring the following documents:
    • Valid passport of the foreigner
    • Copy of most recent visa or stay permit
    • Medical certificate or hospital letter (if applicable)
    • Statement letter explaining the emergency situation
    • Supporting documents (flight cancellation, doctor diagnosis, etc.)
  3. Request for an ITKT form and submit your documents.
  4. Wait for verification and approval from immigration.

Important Notes:

  • ITKT is not automatically approved โ€” strong justification is required.
  • The validity of the permit is usually 30 days and may be extended depending on the emergency.
  • This permit is only valid within Indonesia.
